he should have contented himself
with his own quiet.
He could have stayed happy,
listening to the cookie crunching
in his own mouth.
Instead, he needed an audience
to applaud the cleverness
of his cookie trick.
The one-person audience obliged.
His sister smiled, clapped her hands,
