The Colorado Centre for HANDMADE Paper Artist Paper Grant
As Artists we are often as poor as rag pickers. What artists do you know who can afford to buy a 22" X 30", twenty-five dollar sheet of paper? Especially in today's economy how can an artist even consider working on handmade paper? Why should handmade paper be so expensive? Making quality paper by hand is strenuous, labor-intensive, back-breaking work. It takes more than a week to make a large sheet, from gathering the rags to the final drying of the finished sheet. But it is well worth the effort to make something so grand, human, and unique. Handmade paper is not "fast food". Handmade paper is a feast for the eyes and soul.
The Artist Paper Grant
Artists may apply for a unspecified quantity of available paper. The paper will be awarded in a size (generally 22" X 30"), color, and quantity at the discretion of the Granter. When possible, the artist will be given color and size choices during a telephone interview. Our Grant in not supported by any non-profit organization, but is in-fact an INVESTMENT in YOUR ART. WHEN YOU SELL OR OTHERWISE GIVE AWAY art made on our paper, you agree to give back $25 for each sheet that changes hands. (The amount stays at $25, whether you sell the art for $5000 or donate it to PBS or give it to your mother).
Our paper is 100% rag. There are NO additives and NO SIZING. If you are going to paint on our paper you will have to apply your own gelatin.
Before you are given a grant of paper you must agree to compensate The Colorado Centre for HANDMADE Paper for each artwork that you sell or donate. Each sold or donated artwork on our paper requires that you pay $25.00 to the Colorado Centre for HANDMADE Paper. We are essentially INVESTING in your work.
